Two children from the same family, residents of Ihula hamlet, Bulumbaka village, Mwaubingi ward, Bariadi District, Simiyu Region, have died after falling into a water pit believed to contain chemicals used in gold processing at the Gasuma No. 1 mine in the district.
The Acting Commander of the Fire and Rescue Service in Simiyu, ASF Faustin Mtitu, confirmed the incident, stating that the cause of death was the children drinking the water and suffocating due to lack of oxygen.
The children, both from the same family, were identified as Yona Chai (7) and Baraka Balida (3).
